HEART OF THE MATTER
Few people realize that sudden death is the first and only symptom for 500,000 Americans each year. If you thought about it for just a moment, there has been someone in your family or a friend that died of a sudden heart attack. No symptoms, seemingly healthy until they suddenly suffered a fatal heart attack. In actuality, there has been years and years of coronary plaque build up and you will suffer no symptoms and possible pass every test your doctors gives you.

Here are other matters of the heart that you should know;
    • Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death among American adults.
    • "Millions of Americans" will suffer a sudden or fatal heart attack and have no symptoms.
    • 70% of heart attacks victims would pass a stress test the day before.
    • Only half the people with high cholesterol will develop heart disease.
    • 90% of heart disease goes undiagnosed using traditional methods used by physicians.

The heart of the matter is that with today's EBT technology, in just 5 minutes you will KNOW if in fact you have heart disease. EBT is 100% accurate. If you do have heart disease, you will KNOW to what extent. You will be given a score. Then you will be guided step by step as to what to do to take control of your heart disease. EBT is your first weapon in fighting heart disease…because you will be in the know!

Milwaukee Heart Scan is trying to help you get to the heart of the matter by living well through early detection.

IF IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO WINS OR LOSES, THEN WHY DO THEY KEEP SCORE? Vince Lombardi

When it comes to heart disease it does matter if you win or lose. An EBT heart scan needs to be part of your game plan in defeating heart disease. "Without an EBT heart scan to measure (score) coronary calcium, neither you, your doctor, nor your insurance company know whether or not you're at your true risk for a heart attack." Dr. Matthew Budoff, director of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center EBT Clinic. No truer words have been spoken.

EBT is a noninvasive way to see the very early development of plaque in the arteries. The procedure takes less than five minutes and you remain fully clothed, lying on an open table. The technique produces images of calcium (hard plaque) buildup which shows up as white specks on the wall of arteries. By measuring the amount of hard plaque (scoring), cardiologists can predict the person's risk of a cardiac event over the next five years.

Your calcium score is determined based on the quantity and density of any calcium found in your coronary arteries. Scores are calculated by a volumetric measurement. Scores are categorized by number as minimal, mild, moderate, or severe. Based on the category, which determines your risk, various treatments may be recommended ranging from life style modification to more aggressive means such as medications, further testing, and intervention. You will also categorized by percentile based on your score, sex and age, which compares the total calcium score to a comparable demographic population from a database of over 50,000 patients. Repeat scanning can identify whether or not treatment is effective, or if further changes should be implemented.

Early detection can save your life. "With a coronary calcium scan, along with a good history, physical and lipid profile and other blood tests, we can determine what an asymptomatic person's risk is with a high degree of certainty." Dr. Roger Blumenthal, John Hopkins Hospital.

THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER
The truth of the matter is that EBT is the only early warning system that is FDA approved to detect early coronary heart disease. AND once detected, there is a greater chance it can be slowed, stopped or possibly reversed.

Milwaukee Heart Scan helped in the development of and is the first EBT center in the country to implement Dr. William Davis's Track Your Plaque Program™. This program will assist you in identifying the root cause of your heart disease, recommend proven treatment options and then track the effectiveness of your personalize treatment program.

WHAT'S THE MATTER OR AM I A CANDIDATE?
Here are some guidelines that you can follow.
    • If you are doing this on your own and using EBT as a screening tool you should be;
          • A middle aged adult (35-65 for men and 40-70 for women)
          • You can be with or without risk factors
    • Smoking history
    • Family history of heart disease/stroke
    • High blood pressure
    • Diabetes
    • Abnormal cholesterol levels
    • Inactive lifestyle
    • Overweight
    • Post-menopausal without estrogen replacement therapy
    • Stressful lifestyle (OK, so this includes everyone!)
    • If you are referred by a physician's, here are some of the reasons;
          • To diagnose coronary heart disease undetected by conventional testing methods.
          • To help rule out obstructive coronary disease if you are exhibiting symptoms like chest pain or
             shortness of breath.
          • To help determine if you need aggressive cholesterol lowering drugs or other risk
             reduction therapies.
