IT BEGINS WITH PURPOSE…
Inventor Douglas Boyd, PhD and David King PhD gave birth to the Imatron EBT (Electron Beam Tomography) scanner in the late 1980's for the sole purpose of screening and early detection of Coronary Heart Disease. Both men's dream was to help people detect disease in its earliest stages. When you are able to find disease in its early stages, you now have the liberty to take action. EBT can then be used to track your success in treating and conquering your disease.

As a consumer, it is crucial that you understand the difference between screening for early detection versus scanning for the diagnosing of advanced disease already exhibited by symptoms. Understanding EBT's distinguishing features and benefits from other scanners are important.

EBT (CT) VS. MULTIDETECTOR CT
We have already mentioned the purpose of EBT is early detection of disease. The purpose of Multidetector CT is diagnosing disease if you already have symptoms. (ex: like shortness of breath) . In order to be an informed consumer, you need to understand the differences between EBT (CT) and Multidetector CT, usually found in hospitals or large clinics.

There are three critical factors that differentiate EBT (CT) from the Multidetectors CT. (also refer to chart)

  • First, EBT is the safest method to identify for early detection of disease because of its extremely low radiation levels. Seemingly healthy individuals can use EBT knowing that its purpose is to screen for the smallest evidence of disease. When a patient already exhibiting symptoms, the risks of not diagnosing disease out weighs the high radiation exposure associated with Multidector CT's. More recently, Multidetector CT scanners have been performing EBT's pioneering whole body scan, using unacceptable radiation dose levels for healthy patients according to the FDA. EBT is the only FDA approved method of scanner for early detection.
  • Second, EBT is the most accurate at measuring coronary plaque because of its speed. EBT is 10 times faster than the Multidetector CT. EBT is a powerful tool in your arsenal to fight heart disease (Track Your Plaque Program™). Since EBT is the only noninvasive way to detect and quantify calcified coronary plaque you can be scanned year after year, actually "tracking" your heart disease… is it decreasing, stabilizing, or maybe worsening. EBT will give you and your doctor reliable information regarding the effectiveness of your treatment program.
  • Third, EBT has been identified as the "Gold Standard" for the non-invasive early detection of disease. After extensive peer-reviewed research studies, published in the most prestigious medical journals, EBT has distinguished itself as the "Gold Standard". This means that you and your doctor no long have to play a guessing game with your health. EBT's ability to detect disease with 100% accuracy gives you and your doctor the assurance to know for certain.

As we have stated, it begins with purpose. If you want to fight disease in its earliest stage, EBT should be your weapon of choice. We can't emphasize enough the importance of EBT's safety, accuracy and clarity in the early detection and tracking of disease. Knowing your health status will allow you to live well.
